SNNY YOUNG BOY

Opening with a swish of sustained synths, Snny’s new single ‘Young Boy’ triggers instant curiosity as you wait to see what this atmospheric trope will develop into. What we get is a refreshing spin on ‘80s electronic-pop, given a rhythmic makeover with a garage-style backbeat and steady, bold bassline. Listening to ‘Young Boy’, a flood of recent comparisons come to mind – Childish Gambino’s ‘Sober’, THEY.’s ‘What You Want’, Kudu Blue’s ‘NGFM’ and Gallant’s ‘Talking In Your Sleep’. However, nothing quite picks up on the nostalgic freedom of Snny’s single, his first solo feat outside of joint effort The Kings Dead. It’s the first track we’ve heard from his upcoming Learning To Swim EP (due late February), a project “which is finding yourself by letting go and trusting the current." - HT
